The Kalamazoo Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Center is hosting a traveling exhibit, “DC Super Heroes: Discover Your Superpowers,” this summer.

Produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in partnership with Warner Bros., the interactive exhibition features DC Super Heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The focus is on teamwork, self-discovery, strength, and justice, with the aim being to inspire children and families to challenge themselves mentally and physically, gaining new skills and learning more about themselves in the process.

“’DC Super Heroes: Discover your Superpowers’ offers families a chance to have some fun while learning about the power of teamwork and celebrating how their individual differences can bring about great opportunity,” says Nikki Statler, Kalamazoo Air Zoo director of marketing and development. “The problem-solving and investigative nature of the exhibit is fun and educational.”

Those participating will be called on by members of the Justice League to make the world a safer place by battling super-villains in a fictional, crime-infested city. Recruits-in-training join the super heroes in solving problems and catching villains via a set of challenges.

The exhibit is included with admission and offers hands-on components for every age, according to Air Zoo President & CEO Troy Thrash, who notes, “We can’t wait to unleash the DC Universe on our community.”

It’s the latest among traveling exhibits hosted at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. Statler says the facility welcomes such programs when they fit with its mission and budget. Past traveling exhibits have included ‘Wild Weather’ in 2018 and ‘Game Changers’ in 2019, both of which featured science, technology, and engineering learning elements.

“In 2021, we hosted ‘Be the Astronaut’,” Statler says. “It was very popular and took guests through three training stations with virtual spaceflight experts and then they were able to jump in the open-cockpit simulators to pilot the mission to completion. We hope that each experience helps to ignite a new curiosity in our guests.”

Other regular attractions at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo include indoor amusement park rides, flight simulators, an Imagination Playground, KEVA Creation Stations, and more. It also features historical exhibits with aviation and space exploration themes.
