Grand Rapids’ ArtPrize celebrated another year of being named a top destination event. ArtPrize 2014 opened on September 24 for 19 days of exhibitions and the awarding of $560,000 in prize money on October 10. However, the event is featured in the 2015 list for its “excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world,” according to ABA.
ArtPrize in the past has been recognized as “One of Five Festival Events You Won’t Want to Miss in 2013” by Time magazine, followed by a nod placing Grand Rapids and the region at the top of the list of the the “Top U.S. Destination to Visit in 2014” by Lonely Planet.
“ArtPrize has proven to be an overwhelming success for Grand Rapids,” said Doug Small, president of Experience Grand Rapids. “This new honor will add to our national profile as a destination for not just motorcoach business, but travel professionals, conventions and leisure guests to visit.”
A study last year by Anderson Economic Group in East Lansing determined that ArtPrize 2013 added $22 million to the local economy, created 253 jobs and attracted more than 380,400 attendees.
