Detroit Marriott Completed $30 Million Renovation

By M+E Staff

The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center recently announced the completion of a year-long, $30 million renovation of their facility, which included over 1000 guest rooms and the hotel’s meeting spaces.

The transformation began in January of last year with guest room renovations completed last November. Remodeling of group spaces, the lounge and 52 suites was finished last December.

“The Detroit Marriott is one of city’s crown jewels and with this $30 million investment it now it shines like one too!” said Shonda Johnson, area general manager of the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. “We are so very proud to unveil our modernized, beautiful new look and look forward to welcoming the community as well as visitors from around the world to our Michigan landmark property.”

The hotel remained open during the project, with only certain floors undergoing construction at a time and meeting spaces done in individual phases.

The idea was for the corporate design team to give the guest rooms a look fitting to the Detroit Marriott setting. Many suites in the hotel have been redesigned to offer more space for small events. The Presidential Suite also features a new design. The public areas near the meeting rooms were revised to allow for pre-function space for small groups.

This renovation is part of Marriott Hotels’ brand transformation and is designed for the next generation of travelers.

The brand transformation includes new technological innovations and amenities, notably free internet access for Marriot Rewards Members in addition to 12’’ King mattresses and updated linens. Other additions include new electronic leader boards in the main lobby to inform guests of details and attractions affiliated with the hotel. Certain suites also become equipped with Bluetooth technology for guest’s mobile devices
