Bradley McCallum, a Michigan native, developed a passion for travel and the guest experience while working in the Midwest, Europe and Asia. “I’ve been very fortunate to work with some great companies and great mentors,” McCallum says. He now showcases that passion as general manager of Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.
McCallum grew up in southeast Michigan. After college he worked for his family’s property management company before deciding the hospitality industry was a better fit. “I went to work for a hotel and realized I loved it,” he says.
McCallum’s hospitality experience includes time in Chicago, London, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Dusseldorf, Germany. When he returned to the United States in 2008, he joined the opening team of the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit and then traveled again, working on various task forces for Starwood, the hotel’s parent company.
In 2012, his home state beckoned in the form of the position at Mission Point Resort, and McCallum was interested. He missed home, he says, and the job was appealing in part because, “[Mackinac Island] is small enough to make a difference and big enough to matter.”
McCallum facilitated the transition of the resort’s management and led the property to two record years. Under McCallum, Mission Point has refocused on passion for the guest experience, attention to detail and offering an authentic Northern Michigan experience highlighting local cuisine.
McCallum collects contemporary art and has embraced Mackinac Island’s arts and cultural community. The mayor appointed him to the Mackinac Island Historical District Commission, and he has served as president of the Mackinac Island Arts Council.
McCallum looks to his future at Mission Point with anticipation. “I think that we’re just now tapping into what our story can be,” he says. “I am thrilled to be where I am.”
