Duluth’s Clyde Iron Works Restaurant and Bar has opened Clyde Brewing within the restaurant and is now serving the brewery’s first beers. The brewery’s offerings include Steam Skidder Stout, Whirley Wheat, Stiff Leg IPA, Clyde Cream Ale, McGiffert Logger, Empire Kolsch, and Operator’s Root Beer.

The brewery has been in the works since 2020. The Clyde team, led by President Toni Giuliani and Head Brewer Dale Kleinschmidt, is looking forward to sharing the brews with local beer lovers. And the location of the brewery gives Clyde guests the opportunity to see a brewery in operation.

“We started with our Steam Skidder Stout,” says Giuliani. “It was named for Clyde Iron Works’ iconic steam skidder, a machine that helped transform the American logging industry. The full range of brews, from a cream aleto a lager to nonalcoholic root beer, is dedicated to the manufacturing history of Clyde.”

Kleinschmidt was one of the founders and one of the head brewers of Lake Superior Brewing. During his nearly 25-year tenure there, Kleinschmidt won an astounding 14 World Beer Championship medals. His extensive brewing knowledge and discerning palate are now at the helm of Clyde Brewing.

The brewery will be followed by the development of the Clyde Hotel. It is one of two hotels planned, with the first one scheduled to break ground this spring.

Clyde Iron Works Restaurant and Bar is also home to an Event Center that seats 600 and accommodates 1,200 cocktail-style.
