Centro Opens in South Minneapolis

By Todd R. Berger

New concept Everywhen Burger Bar debuts.

Centro Restaurant Group opened its latest multi-concept bar and restaurant on August 4. The 15,000-square-foot location is home to the group’s second Centro—an abbreviated version of Vivir and its newest concept Everywhen Burger Bar.

“We’re thrilled to become part of the community here as we open our doors to our new home,” says owner Jami Olson. “This location will really become our hub, and we’re excited for all the growth and potential that this new space will allow for.”

Centro’s signature menu of tacos and cocktails will mirror its Northeast location. Vivir will have a more limited menu, highlighting favorites such as Breakfast Tacos, Cemitas, Burritos, and Yucca Fries. Everywhen, the highly anticipated new concept, will feature a menu of smash burgers and chicken sandwiches on house-made brioche buns, hand-cut fries, tater tots, dips, salads, and signature cocktails. Banana and Pineapple Cream Pies, whole and by the slice, and malted ice cream cookie sandwiches have been created with nostalgia in mind. Jose Alarcon, Ngia Xiong, Tye Sullivan and Jami Olson collaboratively created the menus. The restaurants adjoin each other, and guests can order from any or all concepts at once from a newly developed phone app.

The large commissary kitchen services all existing and future Centro Restaurant Group concepts, allowing continued expansion across the Twin Cities. This kitchen also will meet the demand for a strong delivery and catering programand enable the development of select retail items, such as signature salsas and eventually, house-made tortillas.

The new Centro and Vivir share a similar look and feel to the vibrant Northeast location, designed by Shea. Centro commissioned artist Third Daughter, Restless Daughter for new cross-stitch artwork, and the restaurant group hired muralist Charlene Weeks once again to bring her art to the new location. The abbreviated expression of Everywhen has a warm vibe with many vintage design elements. An open seating plan encourages flow between the concepts. Guests can pull up a stool at the large central bar, choose from several low-top tables, or sit at the high-top communal Eat Up counter near Everywhen, overlooking an open kitchen. Seating is available for up to 120 guests inside and an additional 35 guests outside on the patio. Two private event spaces can accommodate up to 75guests for any occasion.

Centro Kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at 2412 Nicollet Avenue South in Minneapolis.
