Sun Country Adds 15 Routes to MSP for Summer 2023

By Todd R. Berger

Sun Country Airlines announced a major route expansion to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) adding 15 domestic destinations to its summer 2023 schedule, including three new cities not served by any other airline at MSP.

“Sun Country’s expanded schedule demonstrates that domestic and leisure travel demand remain strong and promising in 2023 as the overall recovery in air travel continues,” says Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), in a prepared statement. “This is one of the single largest route network expansions at MSP; it offers travelers even more cities and flight options, including service to [and from] three new destinations from our market—Atlantic City, Colorado Springs, and Wilmington, North Carolina.”

The new MSP routes are part of the Minneapolis-based airline’s larger network schedule that was announced November 15. In addition to service from Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina (ILM), Colorado Springs Airport (COS), and Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), new Sun Country routes include service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio (CMH), Kansas City International Airport (MCI), Richmond International Airport in Virginia (RIC), Louisville International Airport (SDF), Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP), Omaha Eppley Airfield (OMA), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), and Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, Michigan (TVC).

“We’re excited to offer … more options to travel,” says Grant Whitney, chief revenue officer at Sun Country Airlines, also in a prepared statement. “MSP is an acclaimed airport due to the hard work of everyone at the MAC, and they are a great partner in supporting Sun Country’s growth. We look forward to connecting our guests to their favorite people and places to create lifelong memories and transformative experiences.”

Sun Country’s new service will start between April and June of 2023, operating between two and four flights per week.
