Owatonna to host Minnesota Senior Games

By M+E Staff

Owatonna is hosting the 2013 Minnesota Senior Games for adults between the ages of 50-99 June 19-22. The Minnesota Senior Games is similar to the Senior Olympics with adults competing in various sporting events.

The National Senior Games Association is the organization behind the Minnesota Senior Games. Their goal is to encourage adults 50 and older to enjoy physical activity with others and live a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise.

The MN Senior Games was recently held in Mankato, MN in 2012 and brought athletes from as far as Florida, Texas, California as well as the Midwest. This year it is anticipated that 250-450 athletes from around the country will compete in Owatonna at the four-day event. All of Owatonna will be showcased to the senior athletes with daily check-in for athletes taking place at the Four Seasons Centre, local schools, parks, golf course, and local gun and archery clubs.

Athletes will also get a chance to take in the sights and attractions and enjoy social events hosted by the local planning committee. For anyone locally interested in participating, registration booklets are available at the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, Senior Place and Owatonna Parks & Recreation Office.
