Prince’s Thriving Legacy at Paisley Park

By Zoe Johnson

Prince’s influence in Minnesota and beyond continues to reign posthumously. After his death in 2016, Prince left the Twin Cities with a gift in the form of his private estate. Paisley Park in Chanhassen was his home for nearly 30 years, and it doubled as his production complex. The musician had a dream that it would someday be open to the public, sharing a place where creativity was cultivated, and freedom was found. Adam Meyer, digital media and marketing manager for Paisley Park, describes the place with fondness. “You can see the innovation and creativity that Prince had during his career,” Meyer says.

Paisley Park offers group tours, musical performances, and personal events. Three tiers are offered for the tours: the Paisley Experience, the VIP Experience, and the Ultimate Experience. The tours range in length from 90 minutes to 3 hours, with more areas of Paisley Park available for the longer tours.

Many themed rooms inspired by Prince’s discography are also on display. “With an artist like Prince, he has so many albums with a different theme and imagery—each one has a different era,” Meyer says. In addition to the displays, there is an exhibit based on the artifacts in the Paisley Park collection. “We want to go through and highlight different times of Prince’s career,” Meyer says about deciding the topic of the exhibit. The 2022-23 exhibit, “The Beautiful Collection,” is a display of 300 shoes, all custom made for Prince.

Visitors can book private events for the sound stage or music club.

Prince intended Paisley Park to be an innovative and inspiring place for all—it is safe to say his desire has been realized.
