In mid-November, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) in Prior Lake opened a new catering enterprise, Native Harvest Catering, offering locally sourced meals. The service caters to clients across the Twin Cities with a menu featuring dishes inspired by ingredients native to the region. Event planners, corporations, and individuals can now incorporate native foods into their events.
The SMSC-owned-and-operated service features signature wild rice bowls made from locally sourced and responsibly grown ingredients. It specializes in drop-off meals, lunch boxes, and buffet-style catering, and offers many menu choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The company can cater events from 20 to 500 attendees. Meals also include compostable dinnerware.
“Native Harvest Catering is born out of our core Dakota value of good stewardship of the Earth,” says SMSC Vice-Chairwoman Natasha Hacker. “These meaningful meals are the perfect addition to any event, and we are excited to share dishes inspired by our homelands with our neighbors across the metro.”
The catering company offers several popular farm-to-table dishes, including many native to Minnesota, such as walleye, trout, bison, venison, elk, rabbit, wild rice, squash, and other healthy and nutritious foods. Event options also include a Belgian waffle bar, build-your-own nachos, a pasta bar, and more.
