Skijoring Fun & New Options in Wyoming

By M+E Staff

As the weather cools down and snow blankets expansive landscapes, Wyoming transitions into a winter wonderland for all types of travelers. The Cowboy State offers a wide range of year-round experiences for groups, including several new and notable options.

Rodeo may be Wyoming’s official sport, but skijoring is the state’s unofficial winter sport. It combines two favorite pastimes: skiing and horseback riding. Watch competitive skijoring (mostly held in February) at the Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo, Sundance Winter Festival, Saratoga Skijoring Races, Skijor Wars (Buffalo), or Pinedale Winter Carnival.

Located in the heart of Jackson, Snow King Mountain is unveiling a new eight-passenger gondola as well as the steepest zipline in North America that will be available during summer months. When riding the gondola, savor spectacular views of the Grand Tetons, National Elk Refuge, and town of Jackson. In addition, Snow King will expand its operations with a new summit restaurant, observatory, planetarium, and 100 acres of skiable terrain.

Snow King Resort will unveil its new Grand View Spa in December. Highlights include six treatment rooms, locker rooms, steam rooms, men’s and women’s private lounges, an infrared sauna, a boutique retail shop, and a scenic outdoor deck with a large hot tub.

The 8,000-square-foot Reid Creek Lodge opened last summer on a working ranch near Douglas. The lodge accommodates groups of up to 22 guests in seven beautifully appointed bedrooms. The exclusive experience includes a personal chef, curated programming, cozy gathering spaces, and a rustic mountain design.
