Santa Fe’s New Sky Railway Offering Private Charters

By M+E Staff

What happens when several prominent Santa Fe residents come together to revive a historic railroad? In this case, it’s something special in the form of Sky Railway that launched in December and was born from the ashes of Santa Fe Southern that stopped running in 2012.

This is no ordinary train when the likes George RR Martin, novelist and co-creator of Meow Wolf, and Bill Banowsky, owner of Violet Crown Cinemas and a filmmaker, and several others such as author Douglas Preston and artist Gary Oakley set out to create a lineup of adventure train rides to entertain locals, visitors and groups.

Groups can choose between the Orion, Celeste and Acoma train cars with capacities ranging from 25 to 48 or book all three for larger parties of up to 115; entertainment, food and drinks can be tailored for a two- or four-hour ride. Private charters depart from the Santa Fe train depot.

Santa Fe muralist and graffiti artist Joerael Numina painted Sky Railway’s two passenger trains, both paying homage to Martin’s stories, with one representing a wolf and the other a dragon. Keep an eye of the unique offerings to be introduced by Sky Railway, a fun addition to the Santa Fe landscape.
