The Virginian Lodge’s Redesign Reflects Western History

By M+E Staff

A fixture of Jackson, Wyoming, since opening in 1965, The Virginian Lodge embodies the great American roadside motor lodge and is spread out across 13 acres located only a few minutes’ walk from town center. In January, the property unveiled a complete transformation encompassing 165 guest rooms and suites, the central courtyard, a new welcoming lobby and more.

As part of the refresh, The Virginian Lodge added a new event space, the 4,185-square-foot Wister Hall, which is one of the largest open meeting spaces in Jackson. A 14-person board room also is available to rent for small meetings and private events.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests and locals back to our reimagined, contemporary lodge,” says General Manager Stacey King Brogan. “It’s been an honor to thoughtfully restore and modernize this legend of a property while keeping intact its sense of community and laid-back hospitality, and we’ve had a whole lot of fun.”

Renovation Highlights

  • NYC-based interior design team, Goodrich, led The Virginian’s redesign, creating a mountain look that honors The Virginian’s rich past, one inspired by the 1902 classic Western novel “The Virginian” by Owen Wister, set in the Wyoming Territory in the 1880s. The book helped immortalize the American cowboy.
  • Upon entering the Lodge’s lobby, guests are greeted by a vintage check-in counter, restored retro furniture and wagon-wheel chandeliers and can take a stroll through The Virginian Mercantile.
  • Guest rooms and suites feature warm wood accents and mid-century furnishings, creating spaces that are authentically western and well-appointed. On the perimeter of the property, premium suites offer oversized accommodations in one- and two-bedroom configurations with living areas and kitchenettes.
  • The Virginian’s large courtyard with Jackson’s largest all-season outdoor pool has gathering spots around cozy firepits and Adirondack chairs. The courtyard transitions seasonally and is the locale of activities such as fireside s’mores, pop-up igloos in the winter, yoga classes, a bike-in themed movies series, wine tastings and musical concerts.
  • An outpost of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Sports Shop is located on-site, offering ski and bike rentals and equipment.
  • To ensure guests have easy access to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, The Virginian Lodge offers a ski shuttle in winter months.

New Culinary Concepts

New food and beverage concepts will be introduced in late spring including Billy’s Burgers, a local favorite that will be coming out of retirement in its new home; The Virginian Saloon, an iconic watering hole; and Ginny’s Bottle Shop, a finely curated drive-thru liquor store.

  • Billy’s Burgers, once a Jackson classic serving giant burgers made from scratch, will honor the original eatery and feature favorites like Billy’s Giant Hamburger, Billy’s Hot Pastrami and Swiss, and Loaded Fries.
  • Virginian Saloon is outfitted in dark wood paneling, log beams and circular banquettes all centered around a stone fireplace. Wine, craft cocktails, local beers and live entertainment are on the menu and an indoor/outdoor patio area within the larger courtyard space is sure to be a spot of connecting and lounging.
  • Ginny’s Bottle Shop is making its debut as the hotel’s onsite liquor store with a drive-thru window for picking up craft cocktail kits, signature sloshies, and a unique selection of wines and beers.
