Mountain Travel & The Code

By M+E Staff

If you want to enjoy some spring skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado, and have the opportunity to get some serious business and learning done, Mountain Travel Symposium
from April 9 – 16 at Beaver Run Resort might be the perfect fit. MTS is an annual gathering of mountain travel professionals in North America with a track record of nearly 40 years.

The gathering is broken down into three exchanges and a forum, so attendees don’t need to go for the entire time. The MICE  (meeting, incentive, conference and exposition) exchange debuted last year and is specifically focused on meeting and event planners. Destination representatives will have the chance to interact with planners through business, social, and networking opportunities held April 9 – 12. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be attending, but Mountain Meetings and Colorado Meetings + Events will be present so consider checking MTS out and enjoy the slopes and all that Breckenridge has to offer at the same time.

Other Mountain West news of note is that Meeting Professionals International Washington State Chapter (MPIWSC) has joined the fight against child trafficking by being the first MPI chapter to sign the Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct. The code is a set of six guidelines travel and tourism companies follow to put in place policies and programs that prevent and react to instances of child sex trafficking. By signing the agreement, MPIWSC also committed to raising awareness of child trafficking among its travel supplier and buyer members and encouraging them to sign the code. The meetings and events industry is in a unique position to help stop child trafficking, and I’m guessing we’ll see many more MPI chapters join the fight.
