Beyond the Borders: Three Exciting Events, One Weekend in Indianapolis

By M+E Staff

Hello readers,

Summer is all about the road trips. If you’re looking for a day adventure for your group that’s economical and convenient, consider crossing the border into Indiana and head to Indianapolis

A number of initiatives have put the state’s capital on the map lately. It was named the number-one convention city in America by USA Today, and proved its stature by hosting the notable 84th Annual Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in late June that welcomed everyone from journalist Ann Curry to entertainer Lady Gaga and the honorable Dalai Lama.

The city is also celebrating the 100th anniversary of The Indianapolis Foundation, founded in 1916 by former U.S. Vice President Charles Warren Fairbanks, Eli Lilly, civic leader Henry H. Hornbrook and others. It was one of the first community foundations in the country that established a number of local nonprofits. On Aug. 27, the dazzling IN Light IN festival and special gala will mark the occasion with $1 million in grants to organizations with similar missions. But that’s not the only event coming to town. Here are three ways to enjoy one weekend in Indiana:
