Steve Haley was recently hired as the managing director for The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa in Denver.
1. What are you most looking forward to in your new role as managing director for The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa?
I am looking forward to the opportunity of being involved in the many day-to-day experiences of The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa that are unique to the hotel, community, guests and associates we serve.
2. How do you think your past industry experience has prepared you for this role?
My past experiences as a general manager in multiple markets with different hotels and independent properties, including five years as director of sales and marketing at The Brown Palace, have given me the experience of understanding the unique challenges and opportunities of The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa as well as the Denver community.
3. What goals do you have in mind for your destination for this year and further down the line?
Our goals for the hotel is to become the hotel of choice; the must see as well as experience our overnight offerings as well as meetings, special events and social gatherings. Additionally, we continue to enhance our history and believe strongly in supporting the local community and visitors who may simply want to take a historical tour. This will be shared continually throughout 2017 as we celebrate our 125th anniversary.
4. How did you get into the industry?
Although I originally thought I would be playing baseball in college, I graduated with a degree in hotel and restaurant administration from Florida State and started as a management trainee in Dallas in 1981.
5. What do you enjoy most about the organization?
It is all about your people. I have been very fortunate to work with the same management company, Quorum Hotels & Resorts for the past 28-plus years. We have been in multiple cities and hotels over those years, in every case we have worked with amazing staff and managers who have become lifelong friends and associates. We take great pride in our facility, staff and community in every location. The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa is truly a special place with special staff all striving to provide the level of service and experience so important to our clientele. We are excited to be back in Denver as a part of this team where we started 28 years ago.
