Chicago Celebrates Art at Fourth Annual One of a Kind Event

By Kassidy Tarala

As if Chicago doesn’t already have enough of its own, the Windy City invited more than 300 artists from across the country to participate in the fourth annual One of a Kind Chicago event April 26-28. From pottery and paintings to clothing and jewelry, One of a Kind Chicago had an abundance of art for the viewing pleasure of art critics and window shoppers alike.

Located at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, One of a Kind Chicago featured exclusively handmade work including accessories, bath and body products, pet products, painting, paper, jewelry, home goods, food and beverage, ceramics, fashion, fiber art, metal, glass, wood, sculpture, photography, children’s items, furniture, and mixed media.

One of this year’s vendors was Generation Bee, a bath and beauty company that replaces all chemicals additives with bee pollen, essential oils and natural ingredients in its products. Based in New Lenox, Generation Bee was one of Illinois’ own at One of a Kind Chicago that offered samples, sold products and, of course, had live bees.

Generation Bee had visitors buzzing for their bath and body products.

In addition to showing and selling art, One of a Kind Chicago hosted a variety of events throughout the weekend, including art making workshops by Marwen, DIY craft stations, jewelry making classes and fashion shows. Visitors also enjoyed live music, a café, bars and wine samplings.

The Let Them Eat Candles booth was a popular stop for visitors looking for gifts, a unique form of art or a snack that can be set on fire. Made of milk and dark chocolate, Let Them Eat Candles have removable wicks so they can be eaten when you’re doing singing “Happy Birthday.”

One of a Kind Chicago tickets sold for $12 and allowed entry all weekend long. In addition to its spring show, One of a Kind Chicago will be hosting a holiday show December 5-8, which will offer visitors a helpful gift guide perfect for the season.
