The Exhibitions & Conferences Alliance (ECA), based in Washington, D.C., will hold its annual Legislative Action Day this year on May 29. The event will bring leaders and advocates from across the business and professional events industry to Capitol Hill to meet with elected officials and support the organization’s current policy priorities.
“From tax reform to workforce development, 2025 is already shaping up to be a pivotal year for the industry in our nation’s capital,” says Tommy Goodwin, ECA vice president, in a prepared statement. “That’s why it’s critical that everyone in the industry makes plans to be part of ECA Legislative Action Day this May.”
This year, the ECA’s agenda includes the following initiatives:
- To enhance competitiveness through growth-focused tax policies
- To create new workforce pathways to ensure industry competitiveness
- To grow international travel to increase U.S. global competitiveness
- To leverage smart decarbonization for long-term competitive advantage
- To support future growth through a competitive operating environment
Preventing potentially harmful local and state tax policies that target the business events industry, ensuring and working to assist the future workforce by expanding Pell Grants to cover shorter-term skill training, and expanding 529 education investment plans to cover certifications are all among the ECA’s top priorities.
In addition, as part of its ongoing efforts to support the advocacy engagement of the industry’s future leaders, ECA is partnering with The George Washington University School of Business nearby to welcome Master of Business Administration students from Associate Teaching Professor of Management Stuart Levy’s The Art and Practice of Business-Government Relations: Advocacy in the Events Industry course to Legislative Action Day this year.
“The students and I are tremendously appreciative of the opportunity to participate in ECA’s Legislative Action Day, and we look forward to contributing to its success,” says Levy. “This course highlight will benefit students by having them intimately engage in the advocacy process while enhancing their communication and networking skills.”
