Canopy by Hilton, Hilton’s lifestyle brand, in collaboration with Sherman Associates and DLR Group, has opened its first hotel in Minnesota.
Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District, located in the heart of Minneapolis’ Mill District is part of a large mixed-use development with a pedestrian-friendly urban framework, that’s revived the former home of the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Implement Company. The 1900s building now offers hotel guests easy access to the Guthrie Theater, Mill City Museum and the new U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings.
“The original structure is an example of the kind of large-scale commercial and industrial buildings that were being constructed around the turn-of-the-century. Converting it has really been a labor of love,” said DLR Group Principal Ed Wilms, AIA, who leads the firm’s Hospitality Studio in Minneapolis. “The resulting design is one that both preserves the building’s heritage and offers guests a truly modern, energizing atmosphere in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.”
The hotel’s interior showcases heavy timber construction, exposed wood ceilings and a central atrium to join the two structures. The property will offer a selection of private and semiprivate event spaces. Over 6,000 square feet of flexible glass enclosed collaboration meeting space revealing exposed wood ceilings and exterior brink walls.
The property’s 183 guest rooms have been designed for guest comfort and ease. Guests can also enjoy artisanal breakfasts each morning, featuring dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, have a “Break Fast Bag” delivered to their room or enjoy a complimentary evening tasting featuring locally sourced brews, wines and spirits. Hotel staff can connect guests to Minneapolis hot spots by scheduling city tours and suggesting hidden gems which guests can explore via complimentary Canopy bikes.
