Come for Spyhouse Coffee, Stay for Giulia at Emery Hotel

By M+E Staff

Standing in the Emery‘s lobby, where live greenery thrives and natural light streams in, it’s hard to believe that this used to be Hotel Minneapolis. Emery is still an Autograph Collection hotel, like Hotel Minneapolis was, but it is, for all intents and purposes, a new, not just renovated, hotel.

Some features, like the marble columns, survived the overhaul. But the name Emery was chosen for the abrasive material of the same name; it connotes the scraping away of the old and polishing of the new.

It’s day and night. That’s especially, and almost literally, true for the restaurant; Hotel Minneapolis’ Restaurant Max was known for its dim lighting, while windows and lighting fixtures were added to Emery’s Giulia to create an on-trend atmosphere.

It’s the Spyhouse Coffee bar in the lobby, though, that got me most excited to visit Minneapolis’ newest hotel.

Like other Spyhouse locations, croissants and other pastries from Black Walnut Bakery are available (I can vouch for the deliciousness of the sauerkraut, caramelized onion and Gruyère croissant). But unlike other Spyhouses, beer and wine are served at night.

It’s a place where you can imagine staying all day, with plenty of outlets, seating options, and food and drink available for every mealtime. And who knows, you might just want to stay the night.
