Discover Los Angeles Launches Innovative Virtual Reality Platform

By M+E Staff

During this year’s IMEX America in Las Vegas Oct. 18–20, the  Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board launched Virtual Discovery L.A., a virtual reality travel platform that gives meeting professionals an immersive 360-degree viewing experience of 50-plus  venues and locations across Los Angeles—the most comprehensive virtual tour of any place on the planet.

In partnership with XplorIt—a virtual technology-focused company—L.A. Tourism’s new program takes meeting professionals throughout the city’s attractions and popular destinations to help plan prospective meetings, receptions and events in Los Angeles. Venues such as L.A. LIVE, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Getty Center, The Studios at Paramount, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Petersen Automotive Museum and L.A. Memorial Coliseum can be found in the platform.

Up-to-date information such as venue capacities and square footage is available for each virtual location along with insightful video vignettes. The platform can be viewed directly on a smartphone, desktop or tablet, and also used with a VR viewer such as Google Cardboard.

Virtual Discovery L.A. will soon be accessible through L.A. Tourism’s forthcoming free mobile application. The app, which will debut in early November 2016, will reflect the website’s design and features for meeting professionals who want to conduct business in Los Angeles directly from their smartphone or tablet.

“Following last year’s launch of our acclaimed meetla.com website, L.A. Tourism continues to elevate the destination’s meeting planning process with an immersive virtual travel experience for all generations of the meeting community,” says Darren K. Green, senior vice president of sales, L.A. Tourism. “Planners can use Virtual Discovery L.A. to conveniently explore a variety of L.A.’s premier venues in a virtual setting and easily navigate the regions of Los Angeles like never before.”

Virtual Discovery L.A. can be accessed by visiting http://bit.ly/virtualLA.
