Hotel Chaco Now Open in Albuquerque

By M+E Staff

Hotel Chaco, a contemporary luxury hotel inspired by the architecture and ancient civilization of Chaco Canyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has opened in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque. The 118-room property – the first from-the-ground-up design/build project from Heritage Hotels & Resorts – is located adjacent to sister property Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.

Stone masonry, vigas and latillas for rooftop structures, and aligning the building with the sun’s movement are just a few elements of the stunning architecture at Hotel Chaco. The award-winning global architectural firm Gensler sets the bar high when designing Hotel Chaco, their first design project in New Mexico. Drawing inspiration from the ancient architecture, The Gensler team crafted an ultra-modern design, an appreciation for the past and sustainable building strategies

The five level hotels 25 distinct guest room configurations can ensure a new and unique experience with every stay. Enjoy a spacious outdoor terrace showcasing majestic views towards the Sandia Mountains and downtown skyline or overlook the beautiful gardens and pool terrace below. The rooftop restaurant and bar, called Level 5 in honor of Chaco Canyon’s legendary Pueblo Bonito, provides guests local ingredients – and Native-inspired menu conceived by legendary chef Mark Miller and Hotel Albuquerque Executive Chef Gilbert Aragon. Additional dining options include the lobby level Equinox Café and Bar, as well as room service. Adding to the guest experience, Interior designer Kris Lajeskie and the hotel instituted an art program, commissioning preeminent contemporary Native American artists to create works for both public spaces and guestrooms. Plans for a 6,000 square foot spa are in progress.

“Typically hotels are built like stackable boxes,” explains Jim Long, CEO, Heritage Hotels & Resorts. “But Hotel Chaco’s design, while very modern, captures the spirit of the civilization and the beautiful architecture of Chaco Canyon. The services, ambiance, and accommodations this hotel provides embraces the native people’s artistic sensibility and oneness with nature. ”

In conjunction with Heritage Inspirations, LLC, Hotel Chaco offers its guests luxurious guided day and overnight camping trips to its namesake Chaco Canyon National Monument. These expeditions offer visitors a pleasurable way to experience this rather remote UNESCO World Heritage Site, considered by many to be the “Machu Picchu” of North America.

Hotel Chaco offers a variety of meeting and event spaces along with access to an additional 62,000 square feet of meeting space at the adjacent Hotel Albuquerque. Standard room rates at Hotel Chaco begin at $239 per night.
