Hotel Chaco Scheduled To Open In April 2017

By M+E Staff

Hotel Chaco is slated to open in Old Town Albuquerque in New Mexico in April 2017. The new hotel was inspired by Chaco Canyon’s ancient civilization. The hotel will collaborate with Chef Mark Miller, who will consult on their restaurant concept, and Interior Designer Kris Lajeskie, who will work on artwork, to elevate the guest experience.

Miller has more than 30 years of experience as a chef and has been awarded two James Beard awards. Working with Chef Gilbert Aragon of Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town, Miller will create a menu that shows the evolution of food from ancient to modern times. The restaurant, Level 5, will be located on the fifth-floor rooftop and pays homage to the iconic Pueblo Bonito, which also had five floors. The restaurant will boast amazing views of the Sandia Mountains, and will hold up to 250 guests.

“We’re creating a hotel where guests will experience the true culture of New Mexico in a way that has never been done before,” says Jim Long, CEO, Heritage Hotels & Resorts. “We are blending ancient building techniques from New Mexico Native Americans with modern amenities and designs from the best designers in the world to create a new hotel that will redefine and advance the architectural building style in our state. The services, sacred architecture and accommodations this hotel will provide will embrace the native people’s artistic sensibility and oneness with nature.”

Hotel Chaco is also working with many artists to create original artwork for the property. These artists include Joe Cajero (Jemez Pueblo), will work on a bronze sculpture, Navajo Weavers from Toadlena Trading Post who will create original weavings to hang in the guestrooms, and Roxanne Swentzell (Santa Clara Pueblo) will create a clay sculpture. The lobby will also have a painting from Tony Abeyta (Navajo) and Tammy Garcia (Santa Clara Pueblo) will design the doors and ceiling of the lobby. The lobby will also hold a glass chandelier created by Ira Lujan Taos (Ohkay Owinjeh Pueblos) and employees will wear uniforms designed by Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo).

Hotel Chaco is now booking individuals and groups!
