PHL Life Sciences, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, presented their Ultimate Solution Award to the American Association for Cancer Researchand its CEO Margaret Foti, Ph.D., MD (hc). Presented annually, the Ultimate Solution Award is given to individuals and organizations that have raised Philadelphia’s profile as a meeting destination for the life sciences. The program was held on Sept. 14 at the National Constitution Center.
AACR and Dr. Foti were selected because of their contributions made in the field of cancer research. AACR, which is headquartered in Philadelphia, is the first and largest cancer research organization in the world. Under Dr. Foti’s leadership their membership has grown from 3,000 to 37,000 across 107 countries.
After accepting the Ultimate Solution Award, Dr. Foti was announced as one of the new co-chairs of PHL Life Sciences alongside co-chair, Frederic Bertley, PhD, senior vice president of science and education at The Franklin Institute; the pair intends to build up Philadelphia’s appeal as a meeting destination.
Currently, the PHLCVB has 378 life sciences related meetings booked, and the life science industry accounts for more than 50 percent of the bookings at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
