Rockford Prepares for Multiple Sports Tournaments

By M+E Staff

Four large-scale sports tournaments are set to be hosted in the Rockford, Ill., region next year. It’s estimated that the participants, coaches and fans flocking to the area will contribute $5 million to the local economy during their stay.

The tournaments that have been booked so far include: the 2017 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, Feb. 23–25; Amateur Athletic Union Midwest Regional Gymnastics Championships, May 5–7; Premier SuperCopa Championship, Jun. 9–12; and the Elite Clubs National Playoffs, Jun. 22–27.

“The riverfront city of Rockford is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Chicago. In addition to the impressive soccer facilities,” says Dawn Simpson, U90C executive director. “There are multiple family-oriented activities being arranged by the local Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Rockford Park District for SuperCopa families.”

These new events are expected to bring more than 22,500 visitors to the Rockford region. The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau worked with both the Rockford Park District and BMO Harris Bank Center to bring those events to the city.
