The Betsy-South Beach Debuts Expansion

By M+E Staff

Betsy-South Beach in Florida just revealed its expansion after a two-year renovation. The luxury hotel merged with the historic Carlton Hotel, and has a total of 130 guestrooms, two restaurants, a rooftop pool, library, 15,000square feet of meeting and events space and many other amenities.

“Our goal with the expansion was to further The Betsy’s existing commitment to community by providing more platforms for our guests and partners to utilize and enjoy—we wanted to create a residential sensibility through a design that was accessible, comfortable and visually compelling,” says Jonathan Plutzik, owner. “In that effort, we’ve created a diversity of unique spaces for both guests and locals to discover which we hope will inspire them to return again and again.”

The creative design team for the project is Miami-based architect Shulman + Associates, known for their combination of historic and modern styles. The design will have an Art Deco feel with beach colors like light blue, white and pops of coral.

“The development of the design to the Betsy’s specification required close communication with both owners and management, but what was most striking was the creative collaboration that allowed a comprehensive artistic treatment of spaces and surfaces throughout the building,” says Allan Shulman, S+A principal. “The design challenges the idea that buildings must be specialized according to use; it is the visible mixing on several levels of boutique hotel and cultural engagement that makes this project so special.”

The hotel will feature restaurants like LT Steak & Seafood, Poeti, and 14th Place Terrace. Additionally, the hotel will offer spaces like the Work Room, Rooftop Swimming Pool Complex, The Library, The Conservatory, The Gallery, The Atrium, The Poetry Rail and The Betsey Orb.

Each space was thoughtfully designed to show the story and history of the area, and create unique experiences for the guests. Unique features include a 3,200 square feet of rooftop space, which includes a pool and city views. Rates for rooms start at $300 per night and go up to $10,000 for the larger suites.
