Thompson Washington D.C. to open in the vibrant Capitol Riverfront neighborhood

By Megan Ekstrand

Washington D.C.’s up-and-coming Capitol Riverfront neighborhood is the ideal backdrop for Thompson Hotels’ new 225-room property set to open this winter. Thompson Washington D.C. will flaunt 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space with sweeping floor-to-ceiling views.

New York-based Parts and Labor Design pulls inspiration from the area’s Navy Yard to incorporate industrial, naval prints and textures throughout the hotel’s interior. The guestrooms, including 17 suites, are elegantly appointed to resemble a ship’s cabin. The hotel is now accepting reservations for stays as early as January 15, 2020.

“Thompson Washington D.C. offers over 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meetings and event space including an expansive rooftop with views of the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, Anacostia River and Nationals Park,” says Sherry Abedi, general manager of Thompson Washington D.C. “It has spaces for both intimate and grand events including formal meeting rooms, a pre-function room, a private dining room and a wine room. Eight Bells, one of the hotel’s meeting rooms, offers outdoor terrace space, ample natural light, and view of the recent World Series champion’s home stadium, Nationals Park, making it a truly unique space.”

Thompson Washington D.C.’s thoughtfully arranged meeting and event space will be complemented by the property’s restaurant and bar concepts from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. Maialino Mare, the property’s Roman-style trattoria, will focus on seafood pastas and locally sourced fish paired with a rich Italian wine list and notable desserts. Executive Chef Rose Noel will lead the coastal-inspired restaurant. Anchovy Social will offer a playful environment for seasonal cocktails, shareables and city views with its rooftop location. For afternoon or evening food and drinks, The Bar Room and café will provide a fresh space with plenty of bar and booth seating available.
