Traverse City Tourism, founded in 1981, is a nonprofit focused on attracting conventions and tourism to the area and building the region’s economy. Trevor Tkach, executive director of the National Cherry Festival and Traverse City native, will step in as the new president/CEO of Traverse City Tourism.
“Working for the National Cherry Festival as its executive director has been an honor and a privilege,” says Tkach. “I’m excited to be able to continue my work celebrating and promoting northern Michigan in my new role as president of Traverse City Tourism. I’m proud to call Traverse City my home, and I look forward to representing this beautiful region and generous community for years to come.”
Listed as one of America’s 15 Favorite Beach Towns, Traverse City is the only Midwestern area to be named alongside seaside such as like Provincetown, Mass., and Laguna Beach Calif., by Travel & Leisure magazine.
“Award-winning wineries, a buzzing microbrewery scene, a film festival headed by Michael Moore and some of the most gorgeous beaches in the country: Traverse City, Michigan is one hip town,” states Travel & Leisure magazine. “It attracts visitors to the shores of Lake Michigan each year for its week-long National Cherry Festival; the region produces over 300 million pounds of the red fruit annually. Balmy summer temperatures also bring nature lovers to nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, where the 2.8-mile Sleeping Bear Point trail offers pinch-yourself views over the lake and nearby islands.”
There are also many new restaurant openings in the area, with new eateries like Fusion Love, Earthen Ales and The West End Tavern, and recently updated restaurants such as PepeNero and The West Bay Beach Resort Hotel’s BISTRO. The hotel also renovated their building adding more patio space, a private waterside patio and will continue to make various aesthetic changes.
Additionally, the Traverse City Beer Week will be returning Nov. 11–17 and will include a Pub Crawl through downtown and beer passports that can be traded for a Beer Week T-shirt once completed. Visit their website at traversecity.com to find out more about upcoming events.
