Visit Plano has appointed Shane Sorenson as the new SMERF (social, military, education, religious, and fraternal) and government sales manager. Sorenson is replacing Kay Summerville, who has retired after nine years at Visit Plano.
Sorenson has experience working for the Wichita Falls CVB, and has recently earned the Texas Destination Marketer credential. He’s also a Certified Tourism Ambassador, member of TACVB, TTIA, and Event Service Professionals Association.
“Shane’s ability to assess and meet the needs of any group make him a great asset to Visit Plano,” says Mark Thompson, director, Visit Plano, “and [these skills] will ensure his success in this new role.”
Sorenson has been with Visit Plano since March 2014, as the convention services coordinator. With the new appointment, Sorenson is now responsible for booking SMERF and government conventions, meetings, events and scheduling hotel room nights in Plano.
