Wilderness Announces Projects for 2017

By M+E Staff

Wilderness Resort Management is launching two new projects for 2017. The resort is adding a third Room Escape for families with younger children and also plans to renew and improve the Timberland Playhouse.

“Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Wilderness on the Lake’s two current room escapes, resort management has contracted with Illinois-based D.O.A. to create a third teambuilding experience,” says Joe Eck, general manager of the resort.

Like the others, the new room escape will be located at Wilderness on the lake, but it will be smaller, accommodating groups of up to six people whereas the other rooms are for groups of up to 12. Designed for families with children between the ages of five and 10, it will feature a circus theme as a tribute to the Ringling Bros., who founded The Greatest Show on Earth in nearby Baraboo. Families will have 30 minutes to complete the challenge of finding the key needed to locate the missing circus acts and start the Big Top Performance.

The room is tentatively set to open in March 2017, although pricing has yet to be set.

Shortly after, Timberland Playhouse will close for a four-week period starting on April 25, so it can be dismantled and re-created. According to Eck, the renewed structure will have four stories instead of three and it will feature six slides, swings, tunnels, an arched bridge and 39 climbs and crawls for guests aged 12 and under.

The new Timberland Playhouse will also feature a separate gated area designed specifically for guests four years of age and younger. Furthermore, it will not include noisy ball launchers to accommodate guests with sensory issues. All of these new features will be unveiled when the Timberland Playhouse reopens on Memorial Day Weekend.
