Jules van Dongen was recently hired as the director of outlets for The Fontaine Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.
1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
I’m excited to build on the success of the Fontaine as a notable hotel in Kansas City by creating a sought after dining experience on the Plaza. I love the atmosphere and décor of Parker restaurant and bar and look forward to entertaining our guests.
2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
I love to travel and my own travel experiences guide the expectations I set for service. My past role as the general manager of outlets in an upscale, boutique hotel also helps to drive the high standards that my team will be focused on delivering at the Fontaine.
3. How did you get into the industry?
Interning at the Hyatt Regency while attending college created my passion for the service industry, not only for the opportunity to create memorable experiences but also for the rewarding interactions from the people I come across daily. I’ve actually made long term friends with some of the guests I’ve met in the past, simply by taking the time to get to know them and sharing common interests.
4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
My team’s current project is the creation of the hotel’s first coffee shop to enhance the guest experience. I hope to continue to build on our service offerings to meet changing needs and stay fresh in our market.
5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?
Every day is a new day, with a new challenge or new opportunity. I enjoy finding unique ways to make our guests smile or to create a memorable experience.
