Robert Festinger was recently appointed vice president of Menin Hospitality to add to his current position as general manager of Mondrian Hotel South Beach.
1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
I am looking forward to working with Menin Hospitality’s diverse portfolio of hotels. The key to successful hotel management is discovering what excites internal and external customers, as both are incredibly instrumental to a hotel’s success, and then focusing your efforts on that.
2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
Working for both independent hotels and well-known hotel brands in the past has contributed to my wide-spanning knowledge of the hospitality industry. However, it’s my experience working as a catering director where I first started out that has truly shaped the way I work today. It taught me to be agile and adapt to any unforeseen circumstances, as well as always be willing to think outside the box.
3. How did you get into the industry?
My family on my father’s side consists of restauranteurs and European-trained chefs, so I was exposed to the hospitality industry at a young age. I actually opted not to go to law school and marched in their footsteps instead.
4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
First and foremost, I want to create a foundation of loyal customers that continuously return for Menin Hospitality’s hotels. I want customers to feel like our properties are truly their homes away from home.
5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?
I love the social aspect of the hospitality industry and all the great people you get to meet. From team members to guests, to even vendors, you’re always learning something new from someone.
