Lindsey Bowman was recently hired as the convention and meeting sales manager for Destination Niagara USA.
1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
I’m looking forward to prospecting new business to the destination and promoting Niagara Falls USA to meeting planners from across the globe. There is no greater satisfaction than booking business and making an impact on the place where I grew up and the place that I call my home.
2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
I’ve been with Destination Niagara USA for nearly six years and have worked in almost every department from customer service to marketing and now sales. In each of my roles, I was able to gain valuable skills and insight that are essential to succeeding in this new position. I’m so lucky to have started with this organization as an intern and learn how each department operates and works together.
3. How did you get into the industry?
I graduated from Niagara University with a degree in tourism and event management. My president and CEO was a guest speaker in one of my classes and talked about Destination Niagara USA and how a DMO functions. His presentation captured my interest, and I then knew I wanted to pursue a career in destination marketing. I reached out to the organization to inquire about a career opportunity, which resulted in an internship after graduation. Here we are six years later, and I worked my way up from intern to the marketing department into leisure group sales and now convention and meeting sales!
4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
I’m hoping to put Niagara Falls USA on the map as a top international meeting destination. I will use my love and passion for the destination to ensure all groups that come here have a successful meeting and bring home stories and memories they will remember for the rest of their lives.
5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?
The people! In the past six years of my career, I have met the most amazing people who started off as clients and colleagues and are now great friends. I love working with people who love and appreciate tourism and hospitality as much as I do. It is truly the best industry!
