Matt Laible was recently hired as the communications and PR manager for Meet Minneapolis.
1. What are you most looking forward to in your new role as communications and PR manager for Meet Minneapolis?
I’m looking forward to helping tell the stories of Minneapolis. It’s such a beautiful, exciting city, and I’m proud to call it home. This new role will give me the chance to share my enthusiasm for Minneapolis with a range of audiences.
2. How do you think your past industry experience has prepared you for this role?
In my 10 years doing communications for the City of Minneapolis, I’ve learned so much about the city and everything it has to offer; joining Meet Minneapolis seemed like a natural transition.
3. What goals do you have in mind for the CVB for this year and farther down the line?
I would like to focus on finding creative, engaging ways for the public to learn about and take part in everything Minneapolis has to offer. This includes public relations both outside Minneapolis and right here at home. The opening of our new Visitor Information Center later this year will provide lots of great opportunities to connect with people in really fun and memorable ways.
4. How did you get into the industry?
In my years working for city government, I worked with Meet Minneapolis many times, including on public relations for the city-owned Minneapolis Convention Center. Meet Minneapolis works to make sure there’s always something going on at the convention center, and now I get to be part of the team working to maximize the center’s economic impact on Minneapolis.
5. What do you enjoy most about Minneapolis?
I love that Minneapolis is such a green, active city. Even when you’re in the heart of downtown, the nearby riverfront, bike trails, parks and plazas bring nature right into the city, and there are so many opportunities to enjoy it.
6. What is your tactic in attracting planners to host events and meetings in the city?
Minneapolis is a terrific destination for conventions and leisure travelers. But for many people, we aren’t first on their list of places to visit. So, the trick is to help people who wouldn’t otherwise consider Minneapolis learn about what it’s really like here. We know once people visit Minneapolis, they’re often surprised at how much they like it, and they want to come back.
