Trish Berry was recently hired as general manager at Ames Boston Hotel in Boston.
1. What are you looking forward to in your new role as general manager at Ames Boston Hotel? I am looking forward to putting Ames Boston Hotel back at the top of people’s minds when they think of Boston hotels. With the renovations of our lobby, common spaces, guest rooms, the availability of new meeting space and an exciting partnership with acclaimed Chef Mary Dumont, we will be a hotel that can be considered across all channels. I’m also excited to welcome and be of service to new guests thanks to our recent addition to Hilton’s Curio collection of unique properties.
2. How do you think your past industry experience has prepared you for this role? I’ve had the pleasure of working at large, branded properties, as well as independent hotels; experiences that I believe have helped prepared me for my new role as general manager of Ames Boston Hotel. Since I started in the industry, I’ve held a variety of roles that have helped me to gain a deeper understanding of all areas of hotel management. What’s great about Ames Boston Hotel is that it now offers guests a boutique look and feel along with the benefits of a branded property, which is something I’m very excited about.
3. What goals do you have for the hotel this year and further down the line? Like most businesses, the goal is to grow our top line. Becoming part of the Curio – A Collection by Hilton family will certainly assist us with reaching that goal. We will also work on improving guest offerings and service while simultaneously creating unique and remarkable one-of-a-kind experiences that capitalize on the Ames Building’s history. We want to be an exceptional neighbor in our community as well.
4. How did you get into the industry? I started my career as an elementary school teacher in Atlanta. As a child, we moved and traveled a lot due to my father’s job, so I’ve always been fascinated by hotels. A college friend of mine was in the hotel industry and was selected to be part of The Ritz-Carlton’s opening team. The more time I spent with her behind the scenes, the more intrigued I became and realized that this is what I wanted to do. I started at the hotel as a club concierge on The Ritz-Carlton Club about a year-and-a-half after it opened.
5. What do you enjoy most about the hotel? I love the camaraderie you get with working on a great team. Our team is fantastic and full of talented ladies and gentlemen. What I enjoy most is watching and helping them reach their aspirations. I also love meeting our guests and getting to know them as they return each week.
