A Former Candy Factory Transforms into a Brand-New Luxury Hotel

By Brenna Sievert

In 1898, Joseph B. Funke opened a candy company in La Crosse, Wisconsin. It operated until 1933 when the doors were closed and no more candy shipped out. That is until this past September, when the building reopened with a new name and new idea.

The site is now the home to The Charmant Hotel, after a $30 million renovation to the property that also keeps it in touch with its sweet history. The original bricks are still visible on the outside, while the maple flooring fills the venue; even advertisements from the Funke Candy Company stay at home in the 67 guest rooms. Corporate groups will enjoy the boardrooms holding anywhere from 12 to 40 guests, as well as a rooftop terrace and first-floor parlour.
