Down Home in Downtown Abilene

By M+E Staff

In 1927, Hilton Hotels’ founder Conrad Hilton said, “Abilene, Texas, will be well prepared to handle large conventions and please the most fastidious visitor.” Nearly 95 years later, Abilene has fulfilled this vision and is excited to welcome back the Hilton family of hotels in the heart of downtown Abilene with a recently announced DoubleTree by Hilton.

The new DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel will bring 17,000 square feet of meeting space, 200 rooms of lodging, full-service dining, a pool deck, rooftop bar, and other heart-warming amenities to the heart of Abilene’s bustling arts and business district. Guests and convention-goers can stay within walking distance of event venues, restaurants, breweries, shops, museums, and the city’s famous storybook sculpture collection. Construction is anticipated to take 18 months, with an opening date projected to be in Spring 2023.

Adding lodging to the development mix in downtown Abilene has been a longtime goal for the city. The area’s renaissance started 30 years ago with the revival of vital historical landmarks, cultural venues and meeting spaces, entertainment, dining, and retail. Residential followed, and that urban lifestyle has launched Abilene into a top draw for entrepreneurial millennials.

Abilene is big on culture and affordability, and both come with a Texas-sized serving of hospitality. A meeting or event in Abilene will bring out the West in you. Discover your pioneering spirit by exploring new options to create memorable meetings. You can also rely on the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau for help with meeting planning, registration, tours, activities, and so much more.
