Get to Know: Greeley

By Noura Elmanssy

Population: 101,000

Location: Beautiful views don’t make this college town secluded. Greeley is located about an hour north of Denver International Airport and south of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The northern Colorado community is also only an hour and 20 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park and Pawnee National Grassland.

Transportation: If walking places is not your style, then you’re in luck. Transportation amenities in the city include GET, the Greeley- Evans transit bus system, which can get you anywhere around the city. There are also local taxi services and direct shuttle services to and from Denver International Airport.

Must-Sees: When gathering in Greeley, make a stop at Colorado Model Railroad Museum, the largest museum of its kind in the country, and also consider stopping by the Greeley History Museum, Nathan Meeker home and Centennial Village. If attendees aren’t museum lovers, then head to the Go-Cup district in downtown Greeley. It’s the only district in Colorado that allows people to go from one restaurant or bar to another with an open container.

Conference Center & Hotels: Greeley has 12 hotels with an additional hotel and conference center opening in 2017. Island Grove Regional Park has an events center with more than 60,000 square feet of versatile space, as well as an outdoor pavilion, exhibition building and grandstands. Greeley also boasts several options at University of Northern Colorado and Union Colony Civic Center, which features the 1,686-seat Monfort Concert Hall and 214-seat Hensel Phelps Theatre.

Breweries: There are six breweries on tap, including WeldWerks Brewing known for being selected as Best New Brewery by readers of USA TODAY.

Restaurants: Hannah LaForest, director of Visit Greeley, suggests some great options. “For a fine dining enthusiast, the Greeley Chophouse. Funky casual, the Ranch is the ticket. Head to Lucky Fins for the best seafood or Coyotes for exquisite Mexican food.” She adds, “For a down-home delicious steak, head to Kenny’s Steak House. Cranford Cove Tea Tavern is a unique gem in Greeley. Schwartz’s Krautburger Kitchen has the best krautburger and has been here for 27 years.”

How the CVB Helps: Visit Greeley can assist with meeting planning, tour planning, welcome bags for events, registration, materials or any general assistance needed to help make your group’s visit to Greeley a memorable one.
