Gondola Celebration & Cool Adventure in Telluride

By M+E Staff

A favorite feature of Telluride is the town-to-town, scenic gondola that runs from historic Telluride to Mountain Village, where the ski resort is located. The towns officially kicked off the 20th anniversary celebration this summer to salute the beloved gondola system. Contests and promotions will lead up to a series of festivals and events taking place in December, the gondola’s official anniversary month. Since 1996, the Gondola has remained a free mode of transportation providing riders with access to hiking and biking trails in the summer, ski terrain in the winter, and striking scenery from 10,500 feet.

For something a bit more bold, groups with adventure junkies can experience Telluride’s elevated terrain on the only via ferrata system in Colorado. A via ferrata is a mountain route that is equipped with fixed cables, stemples, ladders and/or bridges that join otherwise isolated routes to create longer routes for people with a wide range of climbing abilities. Telluride’s via ferrata skirts along the east end of the Telluride canyon, offering views of Bridal Veil Falls and the valley. San Juan Outdoor Adventures takes guests on a half- or full-day outing private, with a gourmet picnic lunch provided for the longer excursion.
