Historic Hotels of America Adds Two U.S. Mountain West Properties

By M+E Staff

Twenty additional historic hotels have been nominated and accepted into the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Historic Hotels of America program, which includes properties ranging in age from 52 to 246 years old. Two that fall within Mountain Meetings’ coverage area include the Fairmont Olympic in Seattle, Washington and Alpenhof Lodge in Teton Village, Wyoming. In 1924 when the Seattle hotel opened, The Seattle Times held a contest offering $50 for the best name, resulting in 3,906 entries submitted and 11 entries combined into one name: The Olympic. Alpenhof Lodge was the first lodge built in Teton Village and has preserved its Bavarian heritage style. Historic Hotels of America has more than 300 historic hotels in 46 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
