Cape May’s Beach Plum Farm is Just Right for Rustic Events

By M+E Staff

Beach Plum Farm’s 100 varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers supply the hotels and restaurants of Cape Resorts (think Congress Hall, the Ebbitt Room and other Cape May landmarks), but this bucolic beauty is a destination unto itself. It’s just a short distance from bustling downtown, but it feels a million miles away. “Beach Plum is a working farm first and foremost,” says Curtis Bashaw, founder of Cape Resorts. “As a farm, we are allowed to host events for those who want to learn about the farm and those who want to sample the food we grow.”

Visitors to Beach Plum Farm are treated to a variety of activities, including guided hay rides through the fields. “Some groups like to participate in the farming itself as teambuilding exercises and others want to have an in-depth class or tour focusing on beekeeping or raising eggs or herbs. We can also do picnics, tours, activities, bonfires and games,” adds Bashaw.

Whether inside the Amish barn or outside in the flowering fields, Beach Plum Farm makes a stunning location for an event. “We have hosted groups in our barns (up to 65 people) and greenhouses, under our allseason tent (which accommodates up to 125) and in our fields,” says Bashaw. “We love our Farm to Table dinner format (open to the public) and like to share that same experience with those looking to book a private event. Guests share a long communal table and enjoy our farm fresh meals that are served family style. All our events are a true farm-totable experience serving what we have grown here at our farm.”

They are also restoring several farmhouses and barns for visitors to stay on the farm as well, with cottages that can sleep up to 14 individuals or couples. “For those interested in hosting an educational and creative event, Beach Plum provides myriad opportunities for events,” adds Bashaw. “People love the rural atmosphere and open spaces, fresh meats and foods. We are able to surprise and delight guests by utilizing all the wonderful spaces available on our 62 acres.”
