Hotel Anthracite, a 61-room property along the Lackawanna Heritage River Trail, features modern décor that reflects Carbondale’s coal mining history. Although Hotel Anthracite’s current location is only a few years old, its presence in downtown Carbondale dates back to the late 1800s. According to Director of Marketing Sarah O’Fee, the original Hotel Anthracite opened in 1894 on the corner of Main and Sixth.
“In 1966, the Zazzera and Murgia families modernized the location and relaunched as the Anthracite Hotel. Where our current hotel stands today was the Irving Theatre for five decades, which closed in 1973,” O’Fee says.
The hotel offers standard, deluxe and suite style rooms. All rooms come with one king or two queen Simmons BeautyRest beds and views of the city, hillside or courtyard. Additionally, each room has a refrigerator, coffee service and organic luxury bath products. Other hotel amenities include free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, a bike share and free passes to the local YMCA.
Hotel Anthracite also has 6,400 square feet of meeting and event space, including an on-site restaurant. The Canary Café provides guests with welcome wine upon check-in and a relaxing space ideal for smaller meetings and executive sessions. Other available event spaces include Gravity Hall, which has a capacity of 350, and Kōl Steakhouse, which seats 75. Both can be reserved for private dining groups.
Gravity Hall functions simultaneously as both a meeting and dining space and is equipped with presentation technology including a drop-down screen, an HD data projector and a sound system with wireless microphones.
“Business meetings benefit from our ability to split the ballroom into meeting and dining spaces, keeping the team together throughout the day,” O’Fee says.
