Hotel Spotlight: The Marriott Marquis

By M+E Staff

You don’t need to be in the meetings and events industry to know the New York Marriott Marquis. The Times Square landmark hotel, part of Marriott International’s exclusive Convention & Resort Network (CRN), has hosted countless conferences, meetings and events. Chances are you’ve attended at least one event here before since it’s not all business; the hotel is a popular choice for the glitterati’s award show after-parties.

But, you may not know that the iconic hotel, which just so happens to share frontrow seats to all of the action surrounding the New Year’s Eve ball drop, is almost a small city unto itself. “Each day, nearly 10,000 people come through this hotel,” says Kathleen Duffy, director of public relations for Marriott’s NYC market. With nearly 2,000 guest rooms and over 100,000 square feet of divisible function and banquet space, the hotel is poised to handle events for as few as 15 attendees to galas for 2,400.

While ballrooms (there are five!) and meeting rooms are plentiful, planners seeking a more out-of-the-box experience for their attendees can choose from some of the hotel’s more unique spaces. Broadway Lounge doubles as a buzzworthy space for events, thanks to coveted views of bustling Times Square. While the space is open to the lobby’s open atrium setting, “there are sliding doors to make the space more private,” says Duffy. The Marquis Theatre, a 1,600- seat Broadway theater, can also be rented for private events through the theater’s management company. Of course, the rotating rooftop restaurant is always a good choice if you’re looking to plan a meal with a view.
