Courtyard by Marriott // Downtown Development
For the first time in over three decades, downtown Lansing will welcome a new full-service hotel as part of an extensive new development. The massive complex will span 4.15-acre portion of land on the 600 block of Michigan Avenue, will occupy 150,000 square feet and house thirty-six apartments, a 5,000-square-foot restaurant/bar, a Meijer grocery store and the new Courtyard by Marriott.
The hotel is expected to have up to 124 rooms and is projected to open in late 2020 with the rest of the development. The Courtyard by Marriott will also include a bar and lounge, fitness center, three meeting spaces and an outdoor patio.
“It’s a great time to be in the Greater Lansing region,” said Jack Schripsema, CEO of Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau. “There has been a renaissance in the area taking place for years and we’re finally able to visibly see the progress and see the properties take shape. It’s an exciting time.”
SpringHill Suites East Lansing University Area
SpringHill Suites by Marriott East Lansing University Area recently opened just a short walk from the Michigan State University campus. The location also offers guests convenient access to the Lansing Convention Center and the Michigan State Capitol.
“The most important thing regarding the new hotels is where they are located,” said Schripsea. “Most of the other hotel openings lately have been in the outer regions, in the suburbs. We are now bringing hotels to areas of the community that have been underserved for some time. That’s a game changer.”
The 88-suite hotel will offer business services, complimentary Wi-Fi, same-day dry cleaning, a meeting room, daily complimentary breakfast, guest laundry facilities, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center and the Spartan conference center: a 323-square-foot space perfect for a group of 20-30 participants.
The new property is made up of suites larger than a typical hotel room offering separate living, working and sleeping spaces. West Elm furniture outfits each room including the SpringHill Suites’ custom, three-in-one sofa which converts from a couch to a daybed to a trundle bed. Each suite also features a 49-in smart HDTV with streaming capabilities for Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Pandora and Crackle.
Hilton Garden Inn Lansing West
Opened in May 2019, the new Lansing hotel is located just ten miles from Michigan State University. Built right off Interstate 96/69, the hotel puts guests just a few minutes from dining, shopping and other points of interest like the State Capitol and Lake Lansing/River Trail.
The Hilton Garden Inn Lansing West offers over 5,500 square feet of flexible meeting and event space elevated by natural light, as well as a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, complimentary 24-hour fitness center and The Garden Grille & Bar, all onsite. Other amenities include a convenience store perfect for snacks and travel essentials, evening room service, on-site catering and a business center.
“There’s a new energy and surge of activity in the area,” said Schripsema. “Lansing has become a very desirable destination in the center of the state.”
