New Venue Spotlight: SPiN Seattle

By Ruthie Flaa

Launched in 2007, SPiN, a New York–based company, has from the very beginning been about one game and one game only: pingpong. What started as a few friendly games turned into a movement that now seeks to unite table tennis lovers around the world. With locations in New York, Los Angeles, Austin and Toronto, SPiN recently opened its newest space in downtown Seattle. Whether it’s a tournament, corporate event or group party, SPiN is the ideal spot for wielding your paddle.

“SPiN’s culture inspires and connects people through pingpong while celebrating creativity, diversity and inclusivity,” says SPiN CEO Pieter Vanermen. “We chose Seattle as the next city because of its rich culture, technological innovation and growing community devoted to originality that aligns with the SPiN brand. We are absolutely thrilled to launch and invite the public to come witness what SPiN is all about.”

Located in the 1920s historic Decatur Building on Sixth Avenue, SPiN features 10,000 square feet of space—ample room for pingpongers to pong (or is it ping?). The event space accommodates up to 400 guests and boasts 12 pingpong tables and a fullservice restaurant and bar. The tasteful décor and street art make it an intimate and relaxed setting and add a colorful and playful aesthetic. It’s a fun spot for large parties, fundraisers or team-building activities, as well as private social events, such as birthday parties. The venue also offers a VIP lounge space for 100 people, with three pingpong tables, a bar and an A/V screen and projector.

If you’re not ready for the Forrest Gump circuit quite yet, not to worry. SPiN welcomes all levels of play and even offers private instruction. And if your office mates are competitive, the venue will soon be introducing league play. Perhaps a little friendly competition pitting your design team against your sales team is in order.
