At first, Skyrock Farm & Carousel looks like any other farm on the winding country road. Horses grazing beside the barns and a yellow farmhouse are the picture of rural charm. Only a miniature train track offers a hint that this isn’t a typical homestead. But waiting inside the event space are horses of a different kind. Step inside and be transported to a Parisian street carnival from the 1900s, where ornate organs and carousels of every size create a grand visual and musical feast worthy of a museum.
These aren’t your grandmother’s church organs. Created for fairs in Europe, handcarved and delicately painted art nouveau motifs grace the facades. Their full, thunderous music belies their century-old age. The ballroom’s four floor-to-ceiling organs surround visitors on all sides, permeating the space with historical sound.
The collection is the result of Bill Nunn’s 20-year hobby restoring carousels and organs. “Our goal is to have them look and sound like they did in the 1900s,” he says. “These organs were made to be shared. Having them is a privilege and sharing them is one of our obligations.”
For guests who prefer live horses to musical ones, owners Bill and Stacy Nunn are happy to show a horse jumping demonstration. They have been training horses on the 11-acre prop – erty for 46 years. Ten years ago they opened for events after tours of the Carousel Building, which houses the impressive carnival collec – tion, became popular in the community.
Stacy describes the venue as “quaint, unique and a happy place.” She enjoys creating a per – sonal bond with clients and customizing each rental package. The space fits 150 and can be configured to fit dining, dancing and a DJ, all surrounded by a carnival occasionally burst – ing to musical life.
Clients can use caterers of their choice or take advantage of Stacy’s home cooking. For outdoor events, rental tents fit nicely in the landscaped yard. A small (but rideable!) mid-century train and roller coaster provide memorable entertainment for all ages.
