Located on the Delaware River in the artsy town of New Hope, the Bucks County Playhouse is a beloved theater hosting plays and musicals starring Broadway performers, as well as concerts, comedy performances and film screenings. What you may not have known is that the Playhouse is also a venue: That means corporations and organizations can host meetings and presentations on the same stage that in recent years has been graced by such stars as Tyne Daly, James Earl Jones, Marilu Henner and Marsha Mason.
“The Bucks County Playhouse is ideal for a group that wants to ensure a captive audience within its theatrical setting of 439 seats, and a dramatic stage as its focal point sup- ported by state-of-the-art audio and lighting,” says Mandee Kuenzle, spokesperson. “Any presentation has the potential to not only be powerful, but entertaining and even comfortable for audiences.”
“The Playhouse sits alongside the scenic Delaware River with the most inspiring views for any guest of the theater,” she says. “Additionally, eventgoers can also enjoy the idyllic location of the theater being in the heart of New Hope, providing easy access to the area’s most intimate dining spots and unique shops.”
The Playhouse started as a grist mill in the 18th century. It opened as a theater in 1939 and became a prime spot for summer stock. Among the stars who performed there were George C. Scott, Jessica Tandy, Hume Cronyn, Eli Wallach, Dick Van Dyke, Liza Minnelli and Robert Redford. By 2010, the Playhouse was home to a slate of musicals by local performers. It fell into disrepair after the owner failed to make payments on it, and was purchased by the nonprofit Bridge Street Foundation, renovated and reopened in 2012. Rental of the venue includes access to lighting, audio-visual equipment, a representative on-site and ushers.
“The Bucks County Playhouse is completely renovated with beautiful new restrooms, dressing rooms, audience seating and three new full-service bars, including one riverfront spot with a light-fare menu,” Kuenzle says. “Additional catering options can also be arranged for guests.”
