Venue Spotlight: The Kimpton Journeyman Hotel

By M+E Staff

Kimpton properties pride themselves on their individuality from state to state and while Milwaukee’s Kimpton Journeyman Hotel is no exception, its pride really lies in its individually from the other properties in the city.

Open for about a year and a half, the hotel has already been named “Best Hotels in Milwaukee, 2017” by U.S. News & World Report and “Top Hotel in the Midwest, 2017” by Condé Nast Traveler. Named for a journeyman who can be defined as a traveler, a wanderer, an apprentice and more, the hotel matches this philosophy by offering a variety of amenities fitting of any guest who visits.

Warm comfort and laid-back charm are a theme found throughout the hotel from the 158 guest rooms and suites, to the meeting spaces, to the one-of-a-kind rooftop bar, The Outsider. Immediately upon walking into the lobby, guests are greeting by fireplaces, a grand chandelier and soft leather couches grouped to facilitate everything from striking up a conversation over a glass of wine to settling in with a book. The rooms are filled welcoming details like a ceramic pup, comfy beds, custom-made carpets, and eclectic armoires featuring historic train numbers. The Kimpton Journeyman is decorated with carefully-curated art to both reflect Milwaukee’s cultural attractions, but also highlight the city’s talent by featuring pieces from students at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

As a new building in a historic district, Kimpton Journeyman Hotel respects the past while incorporating the best of the present and that goes for meetings and events as well. Whether you’re planning an all-day conference, a corporate holiday party or treating your best clients to a weekend getaway, the Kimpton Journey offers high-quality food, a dedicated staff and a venue with personality. A ballroom, flexible meeting rooms, a rooftop restaurant and bar and parts of the lobby restaurant make up the available event space, which is all decorated in eccentric, colorful carpets and velvet accents.

When it comes to attention to detail and focus on comfort, Tre Rivali, the hotel restaurant, is no exception. Chef Heather Terhune brings Mediterranean-inspired Modern American cuisine to Milwaukee’s Third Ward with a lack of pretense and flavor to remember. Menu highlights include the spicy broccolini that can be tailored to your desired level of kick, the house-made creamy sesame hummus and the tomato and cucumber fattoush salad. The space itself is made up of five separate areas: the dining room, bar and lounge, café, sidewalk patio and private dining room, all of which offer a peak into the glassed-in kitchen so guests can see where the magic happens.

Just around the corner from Summerfest, the Milwaukee Public Market, boutiques, restaurants and breweries, the Kimpton Journeyman celebrates its location by embodying the energy and the spirit of not just the neighborhood, but the city of Milwaukee as a whole.
