Tin Can Alley Tacoma has been an event venue for less than a year, but it’s already earned a reputation as a versatile space. It’s hosted everything from magazine photo shoots and award ceremonies to banquets, concerts and seminars— even a music video. Located in the Dome District of Tacoma, Washington, Tin Can Alley was constructed in 1919 as a state-of-the-art tin can factory.
“The event spaces are close to 6,000 square feet and can host 300 people seated and up to 500 standing,” says owner P.J. Hummel, who also owns the event design and décor firm, PJ Hummel & Company. “We have 250 designer Chiavari chairs in-house, along with 30 60-inch round tables. We have several past partnerships with local caterers, though the beauty of Tin Can Alley is how customizable the experience is.”
The building itself totals 27,000 square feet and is the only warehouse in the world where you will find Hummel’s world-renowned event décor collection. One of the largest in the Pacific Northwest, it includes a life-size gold elephant, as well as other elegant pieces from around the world.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Hummel’s plans for the venue continue to evolve. “My concept is to turn our greenbelt property into a rain garden and park,” she says. “I’ve received a $6,000 grant to clean up the neighborhood and develop the vacated roads under the Tacoma Dome.”
