When it was constructed in 1926, the Post Dispatch Building was the tallest building in Houston. Home to the namesake newspaper, the building was liquidated, along with the publication, in 1932, and subsequently became the address for the corporate offices of Shell Oil Company. In the early aughts, it reopened as Magnolia Houston.
This summer, Magnolia Houston unveiled the rewards of a multiyear renovation, which included enhancements to the meeting spaces, ballroom, rooms and suites, and public spaces. The revival of the Magnolia Houston pays homage to its roots as the once-upon-a-time home to a newspaper conglomerate with details such as typewriter keys outlining columns and a printing press reception desk. Featuring 314 rooms and suites, the hotel also includes a rooftop pool, 24-hour fitness center and more than 16,000 square feet of meeting space on the hotel’s third floor.
